One of the objectives of the CINP is to engage the field in a scholarly debate about some of the pressing issues of our times. The issue of how effective antidepressants are has become very relevant recently with authorities expressing a wide range of opinion - from those who consider them life-saving to others who consider them only marginally effective. CINP feels it is critical that this issue be further debated, and through dialogue, better understood. With that in mind we have initiated a 'Perspectives' series, where a topic is initiated with a lead article and then a debate ensues through input by other expert discussants.

The current topic for discussion is:

Is biomarker discovery in psychiatric disorders being inhibited by a lack of standardised protocols and current diagnostic criteria?

by Brian Dean
