CINP Newsletter
International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology (IJNP)
http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayJournal?jid=PNP
I am honored to take over as editor-in-chief (EIC) of the International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology. Under the direction of its founding EIC, Dr. Beni Lerer, the IJN has risen to a position of prominence among the journals in our field and my hope is that I and the new editorial team, building on that success, can take it to even greater heights. For many, the IJN is a primary source of their contact with the CINP so it is important for at least some articles in hopefully every issue of the IJN to be of interest to its members. That is one reason why I will strive to maintain a balance between clinical and preclinical articles in the IJN. Also, that goal is one reason why we now have a Special Projects Field Editor, Dr. Siegfried Kasper, whose responsibilities include soliciting timely review articles and even supplements that will have educational value for many of our members.
Finally in this respect, the IJN will begin to have an “announcement” page highlighting important CINP issues and initiatives
Research in our field continues to expand such that areas somewhat in their infancy ten years ago, e.g., genetics and psychiatric disorders, are now much more fully developed. Also, although our field always carried out what is now termed "translational" research, funding agencies and others are promoting such research much more now than ever. Consequently, we now have a Field Editor for Translational Medicine, Dr. Pierre Blier, and our new Field Editor for Molecular Genetics and Therapeutics, Dr. Maria Karayiorgou, is hoping to stimulate more articles into the genetics of psychiatric disorders or endophenotypes than were published previously.
Finally, it is my pleasure to announce that the IJN will be available to all members/subscribers electronically beginning in 2009 with its articles being able to be downloaded on line. Also, hopefully no later than late spring/early summer of 2009, we will also be able to send to all members/subscribers electronic alerts of articles that are "in press" but will not appear officially until later editions of the journal become available. This project is currently being worked on jointly by the CINP and Cambridge University Press, the publishers of IJN.
Let me conclude by urging you to submit your research findings to the IJN and to contact Dr. Kasper if you have ideas for timely reviews and/or supplements. I am cognizant of the word "international" in the journal's title and want to make certain that we continue to publish very high quality articles from investigators in many parts of the world.

Dr. Peter Gaszner has been a Professor at the Medical University of Pecs and of Budapest and is now at the Semmelwies Budapest University. For 25 years he was head of the Psychiatry Department of the National Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology Budapest, Hungary. He has been a fellow of the CINP since 1980 and a member of the CINP Education Committee several times and also of the East European Regional Committee. Currently he is President of the Hungarian Association of Psychopharmacologists.
Dr. Peter Gaszner will be the new Director of the CINP Mentor/Mentee Program, taking over from Dr. Angelos Halaris who served in this position for 10 years.
The CINP Mentor/Mentee Program allows aspiring psychopharmacologists, clinical and basic, who work in areas where they lack a mentor, to conduct a long distance research project with a top international mentor.
Because of tightened budgets, the program will be limited to mentees in Eastern Europe and the developing world; to one mentee per country; to one mentee per mentor; and to two years total mentoring. Successful mentees will receive travel to the Hong Kong CINP Congress, based on a report of their progress judged by the education committee. Interested mentees and mentors should contact Dr. Gaszner care of CINP Central Office (cinp@glasconf.demon.co.uk).
