A real treat awaits attendees at the Hong Kong CINP meeting where the plenary lectures promise a lively up-to-date and wide ranging program. ACNP Invitation

ACNP Invitation

The ACNP has invited a limited number of CINP members to attend the otherwise closed ACNP meeting to be held in Hollywood, Florida (December 6-10, 2009). Previous attendees from the CINP have described the experience as a wonderful interaction. Registration is available to paid-up CINP members by writing to the CINP Central Office (cinp@northernnetworking.co.uk ) and more information can be found on the website www.cinp.org.

Election of Honorary Members

Election of Honorary Members

Oldrich Vinar was unanimously elected as honorary member of CINP. Dr. Vinar was one of the founders of psychopharmacology in the Czech Republic and has been a critical figure in the transfer of new European psychopharmacology to North America until the present day.

Arthur Prange was one of the founders of psychoneuroendocrinology and has been a CINP member since 1970. His seminal work on thyroid hormone interactions with depression is still an area of active research and clinical application.  He was unanimously elected as an honorary member of CINP.

Hanns Hippius was one of the founding members of CINP in 1957 and was unanimously elected as an honorary member of CINP.  He was President of CINP in 1972-1974. He contributed in a major way to rebuilding the legitimacy of German psychiatry after WWII. His work on clozapine was the basis for world wide research in atypical antipsychotics.

Criteria for CINP Educational Activities

The CINP President receives each month requests for sponsorship of educational activities around the world. At the last Executive Committee meeting the following criteria were passed as criteria for CINP sponsorship: 1) The audience of psychiatrists and neuroscientists aimed at is a representative group of medical providers. 2) If the programme is supported by a pharmaceutical company, it should be clear from the programme that it is not a promotion of a single compound. 3) The progamme should comply with our CINP code of conduct. (www.cinp.org) 4) The full programme be shown in advance to the Chairman of the Education Committee and the CINP President.

The CINP encourages pharmaceutical companies to sponsor launch events for new psychopharmacology compounds being introduced to clinical use in the psychiatric community; however, to be a CINP official activity the previous criteria must be met since CINP activities are distinct from commercial launching activities.

2011 Salzburg and 2013 Jerusalem

2011 Salzburg and 2013 Jerusalem

In continuation of Executive Committee intention to create a five year plan of CINP activities, the CINP is very pleased to announce that a thematic meeting on the subject "Polypharmacy" will be held in 2011 in Salzburg, Austria and will be organized by Prof. Wolfgang Fleischhacker and Prof. Shitij Kapur.

A thematic meeting on the subject of "Pharmacogenetics and Pharmacogenomics" will be held in Jerusalem in 2013 and organized by Prof. Bernard Lerer. For those who attended the first CINP thematic meeting in Edinburgh in April 2009 on "Major Psychoses and Substance Abuse", the scientific value and unique experience of these thematic meetings with about 500 attendees was much appreciated. They serve a different purpose than our biennial congress such as Hong Kong 2010 or Stockholm 2012. Bids have been received for CINP 2014 which will definitely be in North America; decision will be announced soon.

The International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology Goes Electronic!

In January 2010, issues of the International Journal of Neuropsychopharmacology (IJNP) will become entirely electronic and will be available to all members of the CINP as part of their membership dues. CINP members wishing to continue to receive print copies can opt to do so for a premium to their membership dues and should do so via the CINP head office.

Many of you are probably already accessing issues electronically, in addition to the print copies. This is because you have signed up with the publisher of the Journal, namely Cambridge University Press, to do so. If not, you can do so by completing the registration steps that will be available on the website. You will be getting at least a couple of emails in the fall informing you again how to register to access the Journal electronically and outlining new ways of staying up-to-date with new articles being published. Table of content alerts (eTOCs) will be sent to CINP members in the near future. If you wish to continue to receive updates via email, please remember to click the “Confirm” option when these updates arrive. When you receive the journal eTOCs, you can click on the PDF or HTML links under each article title to immediately access your preferred format, without any registration or login. You will also receive instructions on how to register for “FirstView” alerts which list those journal articles that are published electronically or Epub ahead of print. This method of online publication represents a definitive act of publication and the articles are fully citable and indexed widely on services such as PubMed. On average articles are published online 4-6 weeks after acceptance, a dramatic improvement on print publication times. We do however plan to move IJNP to monthly publication in future.

The move to electronic publishing is certainly in full swing in the publishing industry and we are pleased to have worked with our publisher to have moved the IJNP into the mainstream of other biomedical journals in this respect. The CINP and Cambridge University Press will continue to work together to develop new functionality and to ensure member access to their journal is made as simple as easy as possible.

International Scientific Programme Committee Meets for Hong Kong CINP

International Scientific Programme Committee Meets for Hong Kong CINP

The International Scientific Program Committee (ISPC) met on June 26th in Paris for the traditional "feast" of science. For the first time in CINP history all 160 symposium proposals were sent for confidential peer review ratings and judgments were based largely on these ratings. The ISPC developed the final program from the top rated symposia after taking into account geographical and programmatic balance. It is hoped that those not accepted will attend for poster presentations and perhaps to listen as well. Clearly the CINP cannot create an expectation that members present orally at every biennial meeting in this global organization.

For the first time in CINP history a strict rule was observed that no member appear more than once in the oral presentation program. The full half hour lectures for the Hong Kong meeting will allow speakers to develop the background of their topic as well as presenting their breaking new research.

Check the website for up to date information on the scientific programme and other developments for Hong Kong  www.cinp2010.com or www.cinp.org.
