DANIELA PAROLARO PRIZE

In collaboration with the Zardi-Gori Foundation for Addiction Research


The Daniela Parolaro Prize has been established by CINP in collaboration with the Zardi–Gori Foundation for Addiction Research to honor the legacy of Professor Daniela Parolaro (1950–2022), a distinguished leader in the neuroscience of addiction.

This prize recognizes outstanding contributions to experimental research in substance use disorders and aims to support and encourage the next generation of scientists in this important field.

Prize Overview

The Daniela Parolaro Prize celebrates excellence in addiction research and reflects Professor Parolaro’s enduring commitment to scientific rigor, innovation, and mentorship.

The prize includes:

  • 3500 USD monetary award
  • Complimentary registration to the CINP 2026 Congress in Glasgow
  • Presentation of the award during the Congress

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Be within 25 years of completing their terminal degree (PhD or MD)
  • Demonstrate a strong research record in addiction and/or drugs of abuse
  • Be affiliated with a hospital, university, or research institute
  • Be nominated by a CINP member (self-nominations are also accepted)
  • Commit to attending the CINP 2026 Congres and receive the prize in person

CINP is committed to equitable evaluation of candidates. Applicants may request extensions to the eligibility window to account for documented career interruptions, including:

  • Parental leave

  • Caregiving responsibilities

  • Illness

  • Other significant life events

Relevant information may be included in the nomination materials and will be considered confidentially by the selection committee.

Nomination Requirements

A complete nomination package must include:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Nomination statement (max. 500 words) outlining the candidate’s merit
  • Summary of scientific contributions (max. two double-spaced A4 pages), highlighting the impact and relevance of the candidate’s work in psychopharmacology, particularly in addiction research
  • Up to three (3) key peer-reviewed publications

About the Zardi–Gori Foundation

The Zardi–Gori Foundation for Addiction Research was established in December 2000 by Professor Enzo Gori, Full Professor of Pharmacology at the University of Milan, and Dr. Laura Zardi, psychiatrist and psychologist.

The Foundation is dedicated to advancing research and knowledge in substance use disorders, encompassing both traditional and emerging substances, including legal and illegal drugs, as well as natural and synthetic compounds.

Its core activities include:

  • Funding innovative research projects in the neurobiology of addiction at national and international institutions
  • Supporting advanced training and fellowships for early-career researchers
  • Promoting public awareness and dissemination of scientific progress in addiction research
