IN MEMORIAM: PROFESSOR SHIGETO YAMAWAKI (1954–2026)
The Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum (CINP) mourns the passing of Professor Shigeto Yamawaki on June 8, 2026. Professor Yamawaki served CINP with distinction as Secretary and later as President (2014–2016). A pioneering psychiatrist, neuroscientist, and neuropsychopharmacologist, he played a pivotal role in strengthening international collaboration and elevating the visibility of Asian neuropsychopharmacology within the global scientific community. His leadership culminated in the highly successful CINP World Congress 2016 in Seoul, which remains one of the landmark congresses in the history of the College. Professor Yamawaki was also a strong advocate for translational neuroscience, biomarker-based psychiatry, psychiatric drug development, and international scientific cooperation. Through his leadership in CINP, the Japanese Society of Neuropsychopharmacology (JSNP), and the Asian College of Neuropsychopharmacology (AsCNP), he inspired generations of researchers and clinicians worldwide. Beyond his scientific achievements, he was a trusted colleague, thoughtful mentor, and visionary leader whose wisdom, humanity, and dedication profoundly influenced the international neuropsychopharmacology community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and trainees. |
